Pop! Goes the musical BY KEVIN NANCE

For a generation that grew up humming "Day by Day" from "Godspell" or "Corner of the Sky" from "Pippin," it may be difficult to understand why Stephen Schwartz, the composer-lyricist of those era-defining shows from the 1970s, was by the end of that decade essentially banished from New York like Cain from the Garden of Eden.
