Daily News columnist immortalized in 'The Wood'
Mike McAlary broke some of the city's most moving and sensational stories. But his own story was just as colorful as the characters he covered. The Daily News columnist won a Pulitzer Prize in the spring of 1998 for his series on the police torture of Abner Louima. McAlary died from cancer just months later on Christmas Day, at age 41.
