Farce-saving device fails to modernize a Molière by Howard Kissel

At the end of the first act of "Tartuffe," Molière's dark comedy set in 17th-century France, the title character, who is the very essence of sanctimony, has been caught trying to seduce the wife of his benefactor, Orgon, whose gullibility is monumental.
