Backstage with Broadway's 'A Night with Janis Joplin' Costume Designer Amy Clark by Jennifer Nicole Sullivan

If you close your eyes during “A Night with Janis Joplin,” it’s as if Janis herself is wailing on stage before you. That’s how splendid Mary Bridget Davies sounds, raspy voice and all, in her portrayal of the iconic Woodstock-era singer in the new Broadway show, now playing at Lyceum Theatre in New York City. Under a mess of ratted Janis hair, Davies looks like her, too.
