Writer of 'Wicked' script talks about why the big Broadway hit is so 'Popular, ' magical
When "Wicked" opened on Oct. 30, 2003, it starred little-known actresses Idina Menzel, as emerald-skinned outcast Elphaba, and Kristin Chenoweth as the helium-voiced, popular and relentlessly blond Glinda. It went on to win three Tonys, including a best-actress trophy for Menzel. But the untold story of the witches of Oz not only launched the careers of its female leads, it sparked a cultural phenomenon.
