'How We Got On' at the Cleveland Play House; a hip-hop manual with sweet grooves but no grit (review)
Set in The Hill, a predominantly white Midwestern suburb in 1988, "How We Got On" centers on three 15-year-old kids -- two black and one "part Latino" -- suburbanites armed with boom boxes and sass but lacking the grit and danger of city-dwellers. (These teens don't even fool around -- something even the kids from "Family Ties" and "The Cosby Show" couldn't say.)
