Gimme a Role with Hair

The story involves Keith Carradine, who's got to be the only person who's won an Oscar for Best Song and has nabbed a Tony nomination as Best Actor in a Musical. I talked to him last week about his role in Arthur Laurents' new play, New Year's Eve, which starts performances next week at the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, New Jersey. (He said he plays a playwright, and that the script is all about sex.)

It's the first Sunday in June, 1968, and I think I'm going to be arrested. The first act of Hair, the new Broadway sensation, has just ended with a lot of kids totally stark naked on the stage of the Biltmore. Once the house lights come up, a policeman walks down the center aisle and tells the capacity crowd that we're all being taken into custody for attending such a lewd event.
