Ethan Hawke cleans up dysfunctional family in Sam Shepard's 'A Lie of the Mind' By Joe Dziemianowicz

Hawke is great at dredging up the play's offbeat humor, especially with Laurie Metcalf, who plays Beth's nattering mom. Yet, at times, the staging is too tame and tidy. When characters toss soup, why use an almost empty bowl? It's a messy play.<br> It's also a sometimes tedious one, too.
