Playwright of 'West Side Story' and 'Gypsy,' Arthur Laurents, Dies at 93

The 93-year-old director, playwright and screenwriter Arthur Laurents died on Thursday at his home in Manhattan due to complications from pneumonia.  Born in Brooklyn, Laurents had an extensive career in radio and in Hollywood. But it was Broadway where he made his mark. He wrote the story for musical "West Side Story" in 1957. Leonard Bernstein composed the music. "Musically, he was an elitist," Laurents said …
