Diane Paulus stages 'Amaluna'
for Cirque du Soleil by Jed Gottlieb, Jed Gottlieb

Diane Paulus likes story and spectacle. And the artistic director of Harvard's American Repertory Theater has had a lot of luck combining the two " Paulus' revivals "Pippin" and "Hair" won Tony Awards. So Cirque du Soleil seemed a strange fit for Paulus. Sure, the Montreal-based company has the whole spectacle thing down pat. But tumblers, jugglers, clowns and fire-eaters don't leave much room for narrative.
