When the second Black Bottom Film Festival bestows its Excellence in Cinema Award to production designer Thomas, it recognizes an accomplished African-American pioneer whose name you probably don't know, unless you stick around for the credits of films by Spike Lee, Ron Howard, Tim Burton and more.
