Donald F. Smith, Champion of Cabaret, Dies at 79 by Stephen Holden

Donald F. Smith, a champion of high-style cabaret who founded both the Mabel Mercer Foundation and the New York Cabaret Convention, died on Tuesday in Manhattan. He was 79. The cause was congestive heart failure, said Rick Meadows, the foundation's director and Mr. Smith's longtime assistant.
